Cruelty-Free Black Owned Brand List

Amy Petrucci 4 min read

I stand with the black community to fight systematic racism, violence, oppression, and inequality. I created Compassionate Chic to show that we can make difference, big or small, by the purchases we make. It would be hypocritical of me to turn a blind eye and not take a stance on the matter of compassion towards fellow human beings. Now more than ever, it’s time to spread love and support. Every purchase is a vote.

Here is a list of Cruelty-Free Black Owned Brands to shine the spotlight on and support. This is by no means a full list of all the CF Black Owned Brands out there, but it’s certainly a start. The more that I learn of the more I will add to this list:

Ace Beauté – Founded in 2016, this small, independent company provides faux-mink lashes, eyeshadows, brushes, and luxe manicure false nails. Their motto is “Beauty for All” regardless of age, sex, skin color, religion or socio economic status. I’ve never tried anything from this brand, but their Oceanic Palette, Paradise Fallen Palette, and Luxe Manicure False Nails interest me greatly.

Beauty Bakerie – This deliciously adorable brand has a full sweet-treat aesthetic. Cashmere Nicole created the brand in 2011 after a near-death experience. She set out to create a company to sweeten the lives of others and encourage men and women to feel empowered. Beauty Bakerie is also completely paraben free and vegan. Ms. Nicole also created a 501(c)3 named Sugar Homes which is an initiative to provide care to 24 orphans in Uganda. Some of my favorite products from this brand include their Flour Setting Powder, Cotton Candy Champagne Blush Palette, and Cake Pop Lippies.

Briogeo – CEO & Founder, Nancy Twine began formulating hair care products in her NYC Village studio apartment, mixing her grandmother’s beauty recipes with a rockstar chemist team. Briogeo is inspired by NYC’s vibrant culture and prides itself on serving diverse hair care needs with a 6-free clean formula and transparent ingredient lists. Friends, I LOVE Briogeo. I’ve been singing praises about their Scalp Revival line for over a year now. Check out this brand!

Coloured Raine – This brand has always made it a point to make cruelty-free cosmetics for everyone. CEO & Founder, Loraine R. Dowdy is quoted as saying, “We want you to break all the beauty barriers and #MakeItRaine!” Celebrated by MUA’s and MUE’s alike, Coloured Raine’s eyeshadow formula is famous for its diverse shade range and pigmentation. Their Queen of Hearts Palette has a cult following and makes it in a lot influencer’s favorite eyeshadow lists. I covet my Serene Satin Lipstick that you can see me wearing in several pictures on this site.

Glamlite – Have you ever seen the viral Pizza Palette, Burger Palette, and Taco Palette? They’re from Glamlite! The founder wanted to combine her love for pizza and makeup and voilà, the brand was born. Their motto is that it’s ok to be yourself and embrace the things you love. I’ve heard they’re going to release a doughnut palette soon. I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like.

Hey Mocha Whip – Calling all body care lovers! This brand offers handcrafted whipped shea butter, vegan body butter, shea body whippies, shealoe, swirlies, softies, butter balls and african black soap. I just placed an order for their new Shealoe Body Butter Swirlie in Vanilla Rose which is a blend of pure aloe juice, unrefined shea butter, and essential oils for the fresh rose and warm vanilla scent (I got the last one in stock!). UPDATE 11/11/20 – I no longer support this brand. They have not fulfilled orders since June 2020 including my own. They have a 1/5 rating on the Better Business Bureau. Their social media accounts are now private. BUYER BEWARE!

Juvia’s Place – My love for this brand goes deep. Inspired by the vibrancy of Africa, Juvia’s Place offers unique color stories with bold and pigmented shades at an affordable price. They’re a super inclusive brand that caters to skin tones from super fair to super dark with their complexion products. They often have sales too, so definitely keep an eye out for those!

Klarity Kosmetics – Klarity is a one-woman show led by MarQuita. She does everything in-house and makes her cosmetics by hand. She creates everything start to finish, including shipping and packing orders. Her eyeshadows and liquid lipsticks look bomb.

Klarity Kosmetics Chokolate Seduction Mini Palette

Makeup Addiction Cosmetics – This British beauty brand not only offers makeup and tools, but also seminars for budding bloggers and influencers. The CEO’s motto is to create inclusive high-quality products to makeup enthusiasts who want to experiment without the high-end price tag.

OPV Beauty – OPV is UK’s number 1 seller of makeup and brushes for all skin types. They offer products for eyes, lips, face, hair, tools, and makeup storage. The company stands for inclusive, ethical beauty.

OPV Beauty Setting Powder

September Rose Cosmetics – Another UK-based brand known for their colorful Slush palettes. All of their products are vegan.

Uoma Beauty – The beauty community has been sleeping on this brand! Uoma’s main tag line is beauty comes in every color, so they created an inclusive foundation shade range and is openly against “one size fits all” and beauty industry norms. They infuse their complexion productions with skin care to cater to common skin concerns.. They’re incredibly innovative and I have yet to see anything like what Uoma is doing on the market.

I created this site to show that anyone can make a difference, big or small, by the purchases they make. Saving animals and playing with makeup is just really cool, too.
