Review: Three PÜR Products

Amy Petrucci 6 min read
cruelty free, beauty, makeup, product review

When I first started exploring cruelty-free beauty, one of the first companies I was drawn to was PÜR. Their brand offers a variety of both skincare and makeup products. I’ve had really good luck with their In the Clear Clarifying Cleanser and am a big fan of their universally flattering vegan Soirée Diaries Eyeshadow Palette which has sadly been discontinued. Along with these successes have also come some failures, such as their Big Look Waterproof Mascara which left me with a clumpy mess and the Bare It All 4-in-1 Skin-Perfecting Foundation which was one of the thickest, unblendable foundations I have ever tried. After several uses, I was so frustrated I threw it into the trash banishing it from my life forever (a little theatrical, I know).

Over the past two months, I’ve put three of their newish products to the test: the Purple Pore Punisher Pore-Tightening Mask, Make It Matte Oil Mattifying Primer Stick, and Shake & Boost Powder-to-Cream Multivitamin Booster. I purchased these products myself and this post is not sponsored. PÜR PR Team, if you happen to be reading this, please feel free to send things my way. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Continue reading below for my final thoughts.

Quick Brand Overview

Per PÜR’s website: “PÜR The Complexion Authority is the destination around the globe for the best in skin-perfecting mineral-based makeup and skincare solutions. PÜR products are clinically formulated to deliver better-looking skin in 60 seconds and healthier skin in 60 days. At PÜR, we like to describe our mineral makeup as “makeup with a purpose.” All products are formulated with good-for-your-skin ingredients that not only help cover skin imperfections but also help correct its overall appearance.

Make It Matte Oil Mattifying Primer Stick

Product Description:

Oily skin has finally met its matte. This versatile blotting stick instantly mattifies and perfects without over drying the skin, leaving you with a shine-free look that’s comfortable. Use it before makeup application as a mattifying primer or on-the-go for touchups throughout the day. Breakthrough shine doesn’t stand a chance!

This product is:

  • .1 OZ / 3 grams
  • $26.00
  • Vegan

It may seem counterproductive to use an oil-based product to eliminate excess shine and keep your face matte, but in my personal experience with this product I am happy to report that it works. You can apply directly to the skin or with a brush. I apply using a few swipes focusing on my t-zone and then massage it into the skin. It feels super smooth and sinks right in. I’ve seen a significant improvement with how my makeup applies on top of it, and found that I need less touch-ups throughout the day. It has not broken me out or adversely affected my other skincare. I also like that it’s a solid in a retractable container, so you could use it on the go for touch ups. On the other hand, you don’t get a lot of product for the $26.00 price point. This stick is very small. That being said, a little does goes a long way. I’ve found that over the past two months I have only used about half of the product. If you’re willing to splurge on a high-end primer and you suffer from excess oil, I do recommend this product. Personally, I see myself purchasing this product again next Spring once the weather gets a bit warmer and I tend to get more oily.

Shake & Boost Powder-to-Cream Multivitamin Booster

Product Description:

A powder-to-cream formula that gives concealers, foundations, and skincare a boost of multivitamins. This magical formula helps minimize the look of pores, improve the appearance of fine lines, dark spots and an uneven complexion with a shake of a wrist. Featuring vitamins B and C as well as our age-defying Ceretin® Complex, your skin has never looked or felt better.

This product is:

  • .17 OZ / 5 grams
  • $26.00
  • Vegan

The first time I saw this product on PÜR’s website I thought, “GIMMICKY!” immediately followed by, “I think I’ll try it.” Hey, I didn’t say I always make the most logical choices, but I was enticed by the promise of better-looking skin and smaller pores. I ordered Shake & Boost online and the image on their website makes the packaging look a bit more luxurious. The actual component is a bit dinky – very small and the label is stuck on unevenly. Despite its minimal experience, I really like this “gimmicky” product. After using the Make It Matte Stick, I mix two shakes of the Shake & Boost into my foundation. I’ve found that this not only makes my foundation creamer, but it makes it smoother too. I have also seen a significant change in my skin since using this product. I have fewer breakouts, smoother skin, and it may have contributed to reducing my acne-scarring on my cheeks. If you’re not a foundation wearer, you can mix this into your moisturizer. If I had to quibble with this product, is that there’s so little of it. Perhaps the ingredients are what causes the higher price point, but I will repurchase this again and again after the results I have seen.

Purple Pore Punisher Pore-Tightening Mask

Product Description:

Pores beware! Purple Pore Punisher gel face mask works hard to detoxify the skin while gently removing impurities that often form because of daily stress and pollution. Are dead skin cells clogging your pores? No problem! This fragrance-free, detoxifying Pore-Tightening Mask is powerful enough to knock out the dirt and oil in your pores and help reduce the appearance of blackheads in just 15 minutes but gentle enough to restore hydration and help brighten skin’s complexion. You can feel the indulgent, iridescent, cruelty-free Pore-Tightening Mask work! The secret… mega-targeted, skin-nourishing, guilt-free natural ingredients like Charcoal (a natural, powerful magnet for toxins), soothing Witch Hazel Water and skin-plumping, hydra-boosting Glycerin. Yes, with the invigorating Purple Pore Punisher gel face mask, a softer, smoother and healthier-looking complexion can easily be yours… as soon as after the first application. Easy to remove. Safe for all skin types.

This product is:

  • 2.0 OZ / 60 grams
  • $26.00
  • Not vegan as it contains carmine

Could it be that I really like all three products from PÜR? Yep. This mask is actually my favorite of the three and I’m already on my second bottle. I do want to point out that the product actually appears to have more of a blue-ish shift in color than purple. I don’t consider this to be of importance, but I wanted to mention it just the same. I squeeze a little out at a time and apply an even layer over my entire face, avoiding my hairline and eyebrows. Although it completely dries and is stiff to the touch after about 15 to 20 minutes, it peels off quite easily and does not tug or pull at the skin. It’s completely painless. It does remove some sebaceous filament (gross yet satisfying) and leaves the skin feeling super smooth. I use it at least twice a week. Like with the Shake & Boost, I have seen great changes in my skin since using this product. My face is much smoother, less prone to breakouts, and my pores appear less congested and smaller. My main criticism of this product is that I don’t feel it is necessary to have carmine as an ingredient as it has no skincare benefits. My guess is that it’s only purpose is for the bright, shiny color of the mask.

Final Thoughts: I’m really happy with the Purple Pore Punisher Pore-Tightening Mask, Make It Matte Oil Mattifying Primer Stick, and Shake & Boost Powder-to-Cream Multivitamin Booster from PÜR: The Complexion Authority. The products work well in conjunction with one another. I will continue to repurchase these items in the future. Thankfully, PÜR has online sales where you can get 20% off your purchase every now and then. If you sign up for their email list you can be notified when a sale is about to drop. The Purple Pore Punisher was most recently featured on Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty Sale, so I was able to scoop it up for $14.50 as opposed to its regular price of $26.00. Keep your eyes peeled for sales, ya’ll. As always, I’d like to know your thoughts on these products. Have you tried them? What are your favorite PÜR products? Let me know below in the comments section.
